Why it exists

There is something out there right now that you've never seen, never heard of, and would stop you cold if you knew it existed.

Biome Browser is a project of Sprouting Bear Labs, a mission-driven software studio building tools that use revenue to do something better than collect it.

The apps we build that earn well fund the ones that never will. Reduced and free access goes to the educators, community organizations, science communicators, artists, and advocacy groups who need good software and can't afford what exists. LGBTQ+ organizations. BIPOC-led nonprofits. Environmental justice groups. Small museums. Independent science educators. The ones doing the most important work with the least infrastructure.

The data powering Biome Browser is sourced from trusted scientific institutions and handled with the same ethic we apply to everything: we are stewards, not extractors. Of the natural world. Of the communities and organizations whose data makes tools like this possible. Of the infrastructure those communities depend on.
